I know that there was a removed article for YU+ME Dream (http://rosalarian.com/yume/) before, and I agree that it was probably written by a pissed off fan, but I think it was bad even before the plot twist. Ignoring the fact that the twist had excactly zero buildup (as that would be a rehash of the original review)The characters are unrealistic stereotypes, the drama is hamfisted and stupid, and the artwork (Pre twist, mind you) is kinda shit. Even though the art improves post-twist, the story actually gets worse as it turns into a crappy mary-sue fest. And I know that a lot of people like to throw around the "Oh, you only hate it because it's about gays" excuse, but first of all I AM a lesbian, and second of all just because something attempts to do something good doesn't automatically make it good, otherwise Cool Cat Saves the Kids would be a goddamn masterpeice.

Despite all of this though, people seem pretty divided on this thing, and considering the drama that happened in the past I'd like to get some opinoins here before I see if I can review it.

Bet you don't like Nikki Sprite either.

You didn't need to mention that you don't hate gays and are gay yourself. We're pretty chill and tolerant here and don't jump to conclusions. Despite what the people we reviewed and their fantards would tell you.

As for the comic, can't give my input. I tried reading it ages ago. The art was horrid. I don't remember the story so it was probably either extremely cliched, extremely boring, or both.

Is it worth catching up to laugh at the downhill spiral? Or not even that?

Just looked up Nikki Sprite, and jesus christ that's horrifying.

I don't care if this is the best written story of all time I don't want to look at that shit for another second.

As for Sindy's comment, I wouldn't recccomend reading it even as a so-bad-its-good type thing. It's a clusterfuck even before you get to the nonsensical dream logic. A lot of articles and sites talk about it as if it's some webcomics classic, but honestly I think it's more a a relic. Like a piece of a forgotten time where webcomic standards were rock bottom.

I figured real lesbians wouldn't like the way lesbianism is depicted in this webcomic, but then again how often does lesbian porn genuinely depict lesbian sex and relationships?  I doubt you'd like the way Omaha The Cat Dancer comic book series, for all its popularity, depicted sexuality.

In any case I can understand your reaction to Nikki Sprite-and it doesn't matter about your sexuality.

Yeah, I get it. Sorry if it seemed like I was trying to make a big deal, I usually post on tumblr where things can get really easily misconstrued if you don't clarify, and things are really highly praised for attempting representation weather or not it was actually successful or good. I'm really glad that the people here are more chill about it.

Sorry for double posting but I just realized how derailed this thread has gotten. Does anyone else have anything to say about YU+ME Dream or should I go ahead and head to the most wanted list? I wanna be sure I don't stir up anything before I try for a review.

Well, I did enjoy Yu+Me Dream a lot myself, so I guess my opinion goes against the majority. I couldn't stop reading, when I discovered it, all those years ago, and I tried to get in touch with Rosalarian just to tell her how I loved what she was doing.

...And then realized she was one of these entitled webcomic creators who were too self-important to reply to their fans... Then I nudged her once more and she did reply, angry at my insistance, that she had no obligation to reply to me. (even though my initial message was long and full of praise and questions)

I stopped reading. I never finished it to this day. Her attitude skewed my perception of the comic. Looking at her Twitter just now, it seems like she's in full-on SJW mode too, so I guess I was just born the wrong gender and that appreciating her comic, as a cis white guy, was a great sin or something.

I do remember we talked about this happening (myself and the review author) but it must have been another thread. I hope no-one minds (I was meaning to but I don't think I specifically and unambiguously asked the review author) but I finally got around to adding this small update (and made it clear that I'm not the review author) about the other work by the author of this webcomic. I thought it was worth mentioning as creators don't deserve this happening after the excitement of getting published.

Update: Not the reviewer here but having heard good things about it, I did with some time and effort eventually track down a copy of one of this author's later works "I Was Kidnapped by Lesbian Pirates from Outer Space" which I thought was very entertaining and very funny. It was totally worth seeking it out.

On a much more somber note, this* is the reason why I had to spend some time and effort to find it.

Now that whole turn of events really sucked and no creator should have to go through this with their work. Myself, the reviewer and every other reasonable one among us are in total agreement on that

I updated the update to fit into the review. Generally, small updates should just be written into the review in the same writing style and tone as the original author.

Thanks for that. The original reviewer hadn't read it and I had but I see how that re-edit isn't contradictory when you put it that way.

You're welcome. Thankfully, the review uses commas almost the same way I do, so it was fairly easy to imitate the style.
