Righto, reposting as when I try to click on the previous thread of my making, it gives me a 404 error for that and nothing else on the forums.

Righto, this is a comic I found on deviantart. You can find the author's page here: http://jocelynsamara.deviantart.com/

This webcomic has problems. Like, it was obviously made to channel the author's feelings while going sexual reassignment because all that happens in the comic only makes sense in that context. The comic stars Rain, the titular character, a transgender person whom goes to a catholic school with an improbable rainbow of LGBT + tumblr gendered people. Somehow all the *ahem* "cis gendered" people don't seem to notice a thing. In my mind it's like the show Invader Zim where Zim's classmates seem to be completely oblivious to the green alien sitting in class with them, just rationalizing it as him having a weird skin condition. Rain's situation is much the same because like Zim, she is at first super paranoid of being discovered but nobody seems to care. It only goes downhill when the aforementioned LGBT people become visible and the tumblr gendered start to enroll.

But that's only the start.

Backgrounds: there are none most of the time besides a shade of beige or lime green.

Art: It hasn't gone anywhere in the years it has been published over. The people still have simple anatomy and heads that look like featureless blobs that remind me of the changelings from Star Trek when they take humanoid forms.

People: People not acting like people. Because as wel all know, forcibly cutting somebody's hair and telling them to stop acting like they are a girl is a totally rational thing a human being would do and it would be totally reasonable to expect the cut-e and her friends to have no problem with that. Or at least it does when you don't know how to introduce conflict into your comic and need to make an antagonist for a chapter without actually trying.

In summary: I think this story is just a poorly thought out allegory for the author's life that sometimes looks like the author has no idea how to portray people with different orientations. I would even venture that the author isn't trans if it wasn't for the progress pictures she posts on her account showing the transition over the course of months.

Edit 4: The link for my draft. Now with everything revised and hopefully more coherant! http://badwebcomicswiki.shoutwiki.com/wiki/User:Colonel_Klink

If you want to write the review on this one, here's a few places to see what people think.

http://yeshomo.net/rain/

http://yeshomo.net/addendum/rain/

http://yeshomo.net/venus-envy/

http://yeshomo.net/to-a-gentler-future/

Reviews on the review.

... and there's an ongoing thread here in the Misfile forums from since 2012. You'll have to create an account to read it, though but that's not a difficult thing to do. SIgn up and verify an email to get instant access.

I'll begin with a draft and start making pictures to support my case. But those sources from yeshomo just make me cringe. It looks like the reviewer was mad that the comic didn't preach enough.

Do you know how to make a review in your sandbox and also be aware that any review has to get moderator approval for inclusion into the Wiki itself for it can be put in.

You have to make an account on the actual Wiki. Once you do, this will be your sandbox if you choose to use the same User Name.

(If not, whatever your user name is after User: will be your sandbox.)

Alternatively, you could write your reasoning or drafts here but that will obviously look less like the final product.

This forum thread is a decent example of both the collaborative nature of reviews here in the sense of feedback and the drafting process. Reading this and other threads as well as other reviews on the Wiki is helpful for what to do/not to do and how to write a review of the style here.

Please note, I am not a mod and can't authorise anything. Names to look for in that regards are in approximate order of likelihood: Smash Lampjaw, Long Tom, plarblman, izzus, and oddguy.

Basically things are such that over time, things may tend to move towards initial proposal to final product but not always in the straightest of lines and more in a kind of indirect drift pattern as opposed to the most obvious of clearly delineated formal procedural steps. We're kind of more of an anarchists's collective that way.

Well, welcome aboard and now that you're here, remember no-one escapes Stalag 13.

If they try, they get 30 days in the cooler. Also, is there a tutorial page for what yall use for code on the wiki? It says in the rules to use wiki code and not html.

OK, one more thing, to extend on the not a mod thing, myself alone doesn't count as approval to go ahead yet. You've already put forward some points as to why this should be reviewed here. That could be enough in itself or there might be a request for further reasons. So, just keep an eye out for approval before you formally go ahead.

I'm not skilled enough to tell you how you need to improve on that but I can tell you that you'll need to improve on that.

Here's my seven months and counting on my latest review.

http://badwebcomicswikiforum.yuku.com/topic/663/The-Werewif?page=1#.WTOW12h97IU

and then if you work your way backwards on the evolution of my section to the OJST review.

http://badwebcomicswikiforum.yuku.com/topic/686/Oh-Joy-Sex-Toy-Links-NSFW-Thread-SFW?page=7#.WTOX8mh97IU

Worth it in both cases because where I'm at and where they're currently at is a big improvement. Key point is, though, they're not there yet.

Another good place to look is anything by Lt. Art Major who unlike me, hit the ground running (Reviews are: Band vs. Band, Computer Love, and IDK comics). Smash has been reviewing my reviews and also Lt. Art Major's too, so read those as well as well as the forum threads for each of those too.

Writing a review doesn't require seeing what other people who reviewed the comic think. That said, if a comic was very popular it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a quick check to make sure you're not retreading the same ground. I'm not sure Rain qualifies; dA comics are notoriously hard to read and this one is currently #512 on TWC with 15 votes.

I read through half of it so far; the comic sounds incredibly tedious. I'll get back to you when I have more time but it's definitely looking like review-fodder.

I think it's primarily a Comic Fury one, though.

http://rain.thecomicseries.com/

I suggested in this particular case to read a few other opinions on it because as obvious as it seems, it doesn't hurt to see a concrete example of different members of a particular group can have quite different opinions on a subject as opposed to all having the same view on something. Especially given how contentious things can get in this particular situation.

Yeah, and my review reflects it. It's like a Japanese cartoon with too much filler. Bleach.

My dad had a subscription since the Internet was a gleam in the Arpanet's eye. Been reading it for a very long time (I'm the resident leftist here. I think everyone else left left).

Every page of this I read at random is impressively tedious. Does the author ever use show-don't-tell or is this comic a perpetual series of open-mouthed faces talking?

Stuff happens...maybe every 2-3 chapters. Like I think the latest bullshit is something about..one of the lesbian chicks being all depressed because she can't go to prom with the other lesbian chick because its a catholic school and homosexuality is logically not condoned there. Fucking riveting stuff, dude.

Alright, my review is about done. Please tell me if any of you have any issues. Especially about the bio part, I might be overreaching there and making bad assumptions.
